Desperately Seeking Eric

Rockabilly Busker, originally uploaded by Colonel Blink.

Which reminds me. One of the legends floating around is that punk era singer/songwriter Wreckless Eric can be found busking in Norwich City. I've never seen him and not sure I would recognise him these days. The story goes that three years ago he applied for a job as a delivery driver with Rainbow Wholefoods. They turned him down. This is NOT a photo of Wreckless Eric. Er I think.

You never can be too sure with these stories. In the 1970s there was a rumour going around Norwich that the mother of Neil Innes (Bonzos, Grimms, etc) made a point of introducing herself to buskers and giving them words of encouragement. I discounted this as just another legend until I happened on two Irish Brothers who used to busk on Habitat corner (playing blues tunes mostly). They had stopped playing and were each tucking into an enormous slab of cake.

Oh they explained, Neil Innes' mum was just here. She often stops and talks to us. She thought we were looking a bit thin so she went and bought us some cake from the Women's Institute stall.
